Hey Katlego, great to have you, how are you doing?
Hey, guys thanks for having me. I really appreciate it. I am doing good and I trust you are doing good too.

Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about your background, maybe where you grew up and what first got you interested in electronic music?
I am KaySoul, a House DJ/record producer from Johannesburg, South Africa.
Hailing from Johannesburg, I grew up in a township called Kwa-thema which is located in the East Rand of Johannesburg. Growing up with the sounds of House, Bubble Gum and Kwaito on the radio at home and in the neighbourhood, I quickly got into taping songs and making compilations of music that really moved me and that's how I got into electronic music– just so I could listen again.

How and when was Kaysoul born?
KaySoul was born when a friend of mine taught me how to use fruity loops in 2010 and then in 2014 I had my first release... The rest is history...

Please take us through a typical day in your life?
On Saturdays I wake up at 10 in the morning, drink water and then exercise for about 45 minutes maximum, take a bath, get behind my computer screen doing non music related stuff and that's it. Monday to Friday's is when I will get busy with music related stuff.

Do you have any hobbies or passions outside of music?
Yes, of course... I like to jog in my neighborhood.

What is your studio looking like? Which is the piece of gear that you would miss the most?
My studio is basically a home studio with two M-Audio monitors, M-Audio midi-keyboard, a laptop, lots of plugins that are equivalent to gear such as Korg Ms-20, Trillian, Jupiter 6, Fender Rhodes.

You recently put out the Frequency Rays of One Cosmic EP on Dirt Crew. Congratulations! How did that come together?
Thank you! The tracks in the EP were made during the lockdown and I felt like they would make a perfect fit for Dirt Crew of which they liked them.

Are there any exciting new releases on the horizon that we can look forward to checking out?
Yes, there's new releases that are coming up... Please check out my release on Shall Not Fade... I will have music on Apparel Music, Closer to Truth and on Turbo Jazz label "Last Forever Records"

What are your other favourite record labels out there at the moment?
I like Heist Recordings, Shall Not Fade, Ninja Tune, Local Talk, NDATL, Dekmantel and Pont Neuf Recordings.

What does 2022 have in store for you?
2022 has positivity for me and great vibes only. I hope to make lots of music and finish my album.

Can you tell us a bit about the mix? Were there any particular thoughts or themes behind it?
The mix features some of my favorite artists, my own tracks... This mix ranges from jazzy soulful house, deep house, ambient and lo-fi type of beats.
