Antonyo Marest for Spring & Summer 2022
Born and raised in Alicante, Spain, Antonyo Marest is an international multidisciplinary artist. With an unique artistic language his work ranges from sculpture and paint to design. Growing up in Alicante, which has been a harbor of cultures for over 1000 years, as well as the Mediterranean sea, is something that inspires his work in every moment. Within Marest’s huge wall paintings, you can discover palm leafs, light beams, waves, fluids and clouds that generate impossible harmonic forms - All these things reflect his work and his way of thinking.
For those that don’t know, what and who is Antonyo Marest?
Antonyo MAREST is a Mediterranean artist, an all-terrain kind of artist that travels around the world adding some color to whatever he touches.
You were born and raised in Alicante, Spain. What was it like growing up there and to what extent did it influence your artistic work?
It was a wonderful and motivational time although the hunger of knowing the world and what was out there was always in me. Nevertheless I carry from Alicante the light, the sunshine, and the mediterranean ways wherever I go.
Some time ago you moved to Madrid. Was there a specific reason for moving there?
Basically Madrid is the capital of the country and like many artist since all times.. moving to the capital opened more doors, more opportunities, it’s also a really inspiring place as I always say for me Madrid is definitely the gate of Europe.
Flamingos, palm trees and 1980s patterns play an important role in your art. What personal meaning do these symbols have for you?
All these characters are what represents me, what it makes the kind of artist I am, a cheerful and colorful soul is in me, and I also consider myself very chameleonic, capable to adapt to different situations when it requires.

In your career you've painted a lot of walls all over the world. Is there a project that you particularly remember? If so, is there a special story about it?
If I had to mention one.. Villa Allegra was the mural that inspired the name of my daughter, so that one is by far the more significant one for me by date, as everything I do is for her since she is in my life.
When it comes to art, how do you kick-start the creative process? How do you approach a project?
I always follow the same procedure: Brain Storming, handmade sketches, digital translation, ACTION!
How and where do you find inspiration and are there any artistic heroes that have influenced you in your work?
I find inspiration in my travels, in music, in photography.. I take many shots of architectural details, nature shapes.. and also take many notes of whatever catches my eye. I have many icon artist referents as Dali, Miró, Mondrian , Ettore Sottssas, Kaws...
Music has always played a big role for us. Is music also important to your creative process? If so, what records are you listening to at the moment?
Music is key on my artistic process and its been like that my whole life. Here what I’ve been listening lately: The Blaze, Moderat, Blomqvist Cuzco, Glass Animals, Kavinsky, Haftbefehl and Marracash.
